The comments below show the appreciation of Lynne Tabone, Project Manager of PLUS Strategy at ECOTEC: “(Splinter) are very responsive and have come up with some creative design solutions that have been very focused to our audiences. The team have always worked very quickly and effectively to very tight deadlines, have coped well with constant changes to the schedules and design aspects of the various projects, and been very pro-active at all stages of the work.”
“The designs that Splinter developed were very fresh and modern; very engaging to the audience at which it was aimed. The resulting pack looks fabulous and is getting a good response from users.”

ECOTEC offer international research and management services to large public organisations in the Education Sector. They were commissioned by the Youth Justice Board to manage its literacy and numeracy programme for young offenders. Splinter were asked to develop a pack called 'Sounds Good' in which students are required to create an imaginary band. The student then 'manages' the band during its development, and on to ultimate success and an awards ceremony. Literacy and numeracy activities are inter-woven throughout the pack and the learning experiences of the student
The project was complex due to the charateristics of the target market: young people in a Young Offender’s Institute, often having had negative experiences in learning, and with low levels of literacy and numeracy skills (over 50% with attainment levels below that expected of an 11 year old).
ECOTEC were particularly interested in our ability to provide educational digital solutions that complement printed materials. These included:
- Learning materials for training courses and subsequent materials
- ‘Top Trump' cards to support interactive learning
- CD support materials
- Activity sheets
- Interactive multimedia solutions
