Glamorgan record Office and Gwynedd Archives asked Splinter and Mair Education to create a CDROM for Key Stages 3/4 and AS/A pupils studying the Tonypandy Riot of 1910 and the Penrhyn Quarry Strikes. Violence broke out between striking miners, miners trying to return to work and police.
The CDROM called Strike was designed using Flash8 to provide an engaging learning tool for young people to enjoy using while studying local history.
While working on the Strike CDROM great effort was made to enhance teachers’ and students’ confidence in working with new media educational resources. Mair Education worked on identifying barriers to educational groups and on outlining their requirements, relying upon a Teacher Advisory Panel of 17 teachers.
Splinter together with Mair Education realised a product with specially selected items from the Archives, which involves young people and leads them to explore themes including notions of identity, protest and conflict.
Charlotte Hodgson, Glamorgan Record Office’s Principal archivist, said about the production and final result.
“I wanted to say thank you for all your work on Strike. It was our first venture producing educational resources and thanks to the truly professional product you supplied us with I am sure it won't be the last. It was a real pleasure working with you and this was one of the most trouble free projects we have ever undertaken.”
