Kensington Regeneration - LIVERPOOL - PROMISED LAND? |

Kensington Regeneration approached Splinter to design and create a Key Stage 3 learning resource to commemorate and coincide with Holocaust Memorial Day, held in Liverpool in January 2008.
The client wanted the resource to meet PSHE and Citizenship curricular learning outcomes and, using an engaging design for secondary school teachers and pupils alike, to convey the juxtaposition of the content: the social injustice against the individual’s spirit in the face of that injustice and the communities’ hopes for the future. The intention being to encourage and foster awareness and empathy, via activities and stories based on in-depth interviews with representatives from the Rwandese, Congolese and Jewish communities.
In partnership with Liverpool John Moore’s University and Richard Evans from Calday Grange Grammar School (author of the content), an A4 ring-binder workbook entitled “Liverpool, Promised land?” was produced. Splinter’s design used a stark, illustrative image of a barb-wired-clad version of the City of Liverpool against a contrasting brightly coloured background, representing each community.
Richard Evans praised Splinter for the resulting resource, which was completed on time and to brief despite limitations of resources and time. He stated that:
“It has been my pleasure to work with Splinter on the production of my educational resource about migration, "Liverpool, Promised Land?". I have found them creative, efficient, patient and flexible as they worked to a tight deadline. The finished product is high quality and attractive and has been well received by all whom I have shown it to. I have no hesitation in recommending Splinter to anyone working in education or other fields.”
