Knowsley Community College wanted a new image that would effectively express the college’s development and changes during the last few years, Splinter won the tender to find the appropriate solution. Splinter successfully produced last year’s Higher Education prospectus and were pleased to be able to continue our work with the College. The challenge this time was to develop a new logo and brand for the 2008/09 prospectuses, and rebrand the College in an innovative fresh way.
While trying to communicate new values, we had to stay coherent with Knowsley Community College’s distinctive traits: a good proportion of the students enrolled in its courses are adults returning to higher education; excellent ties with local businesses and quality vocational courses allowing skilled apprenticeships for younger people. Splinter involved the College’s key stakeholders to develop and choose the new logo. We held focus testing groups of students, staff and business sponsors, who went through the four stage branding process with us. This made it possible to come up with the final potential logos that were presented to the board. The definitive logo has been chosen on the basis of the values it expresses which ranged from aspirations for the future, to a young optimistic perspective. The colours were chosen as they were perceived as fresh, innovative and new. This has resulted in a shift in the College’s brand which has been applied to the new literature, signage and clothing in the College, creating an analogous improvement in the way Knowsley Community College is perceived from outside. Knowsley Community Colleges Acting Head of Marketing Laura Dowell said; “Splinter have been responsive, committed and also very patient throughout the rebrand of the College logo and we at Knowsley Community College appreciate all their hard work.” |
