'Fish & Kids' a national three-year project developed by the Marine Stewardship Council was initially launched in Surrey with the aim of involving schools, children and families in the process of saving the seas by encouraging more school kitchens to buy sustainable fish.
Splinter Design were asked to design the project's identity design and development as well as create an education pack and artwork to be distributed to teachers and pupils from age 5 to 11 years. Splinter also designed the initiative's website which included creating a host of interactive educational games.
The curriculum linked Fish & Kids education pack and website aimes at teaching children via interactive games, discussion cards and slide shows about marine environmental issues, how fish get from a boat to their plates and how everyone can use consumer power to protect the oceans.
All the teaching material was produced in close consultation with a working group of teachers, education and environmental education experts, is now available on the project's website - www.fishandkids.org, and includes sections for teachers, children, families and school catering staff.
