Commissioned by Merseytravel www.climatlantic.co.uk is a fun and easy to use website for Primary and Secondary schoolchildren, teachers, parents and guardians. The website and games promote carbon reduction activity and environmental awareness, such as turning off lights, using public transport or planting a tree.

Climatlantic is a partnership of European countries: Ireland, UK, Portugal, Spain and France, located along the Atlantic coastline and working together to reduce their collective carbon footprints. Visitors to the website’s homepage are invited to make a pledge and help save the planet. After pledging you/schools are automatically sent advice to help fulfill that pledge.

The multi-lingual website has been designed with help from Holy Spirit School in Merseyside and Connah’s Quay High school in Flintshire. The children choose the colourful funky style of the website, the cool animal characters, including their names and also helped develop the game concepts. Climatlantic’s eco-guides are called Ollie the orangutan, Ula the parrot and Roofus the polar bear and appear throughout the site and games. Thanks to the fabulous illustrator Tracy who helped bring the children’s ideas to life.

the Bluecoat website

We have developed a new website for the country’s oldest arts centre, the Bluecoat. The launch co-incided with the streaming of its popular Bed-In project, which draws on John Lennon’s actions for peace.

For those who don’t know… the Bluecoat is a restored historic building in the centre of Liverpool and its community mixes artists of all types and encourages connections between audiences, participants and artists. It uses its spaces to display talent from all creative disciplines, including visual art, music, literature, dance, and live art.

The site we have produced is clean and practical, allowing viewers to personalise the way content is displayed when they first arrive. It features a wide range of media and functionality including an in-depth events listing, online ticket booking, blogs and forums, panoramic views of the galleries and historic buildings, showcases for the creative community and of course the Bed-In stream.

People & Place website launches

People & Place puts young people at the heart of projects taking place across England. Each project is unique and will result in the production of new displays, resources, events and volunteering opportunities for young people as well as embedding new ways of working at each partner institution.

The British Museum asked us to put together a site for the project, which is aimed at getting young people involved in both local and global history projects. We’re very happy to let you all know that the People & Place website is now live!

Clwydian Range AONB Website

Splinter were commissioned to work with the staff of the Denbighshire County Council to create a new website for the Clwydian Range AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The website was launched in June 2010.

The website has features such as a gallery, panoramic and video viewer, walking route guide and an interactive map for places of interest. The walking guide uses Google maps to display the numerous walks throughout the range and allows the user to select a walk and see the route displayed on the map; it also gives each walk a difficulty rating to help users. The places of interest are marked on a map and show pictures and details of the various hill forts and country parks dotting the range.

WipEout Fury

With the PS3 release of the Fury expansion pack for WipEout HD, Sony asked Splinter to create a re-skinned ‘corrupted’ version of the WipEout HD site. Featuring the new black and red colour scheme, Splinter were able to replicate a number of the in-game distortion effects and transitions to keep the site in line with the branding for the real game.

The Well

For the past 6 months Splinter have busily been developing the games for Conker Media’s multi-platform digital fiction event, The Well; created for BBC Switch.

The Well aired on BBC Two on Saturday afternoons and extended online where the audience immerse themselves further in the story – exploring a spookily-atmospheric recreation of the main drama location in a multi-level game. By engaging in a series of tasks and challenges the audience unlock hidden drama content which reveals the backstory to the TV drama.

WipEout HD

Working alongside Sony Studio Liverpool, Splinter have just finished the build of the website for the PLAYSTATION®3 title, WipEout ® HD. The Flash-based site features high-definition trailers, extensive game info and exclusive downloadable content. It’s also localised for 22 different territories, in 11 different languages.

It’s the second site Splinter have produced for the WipEout franchise, following on from the site for the PSP game WipEout ® Pulse. We have also subsequently produced the WipEout ® Fury site.

TravelWise

Splinter were appointed in October 2005 by TravelWise Merseyside to help them develop a new and recognisable brand. We developed and focus tested the new brand and it was officially launched in June 2006. In 2007 TravelWise Merseyside were recognised nationally when they were named Best Overall TravelWise Public Sector Organisation by the National TravelWise Organisation (www.travelwise.org.uk). The bright and easy to understand brand Splinter produced is one of the main reasons why TravelWise won the award for the second year on the run.

NML website

National Museums Liverpool, who receive more than 2 million visitors to their museums every year, asked Splinter to give their website a re-vamp. The new site went live in the summer of 2008. The project involved us coming up with a design for the main portal NML site, as well as designs for each of NML’s 7 museums across Merseyside, including a specific learning section.

In addition to the development of the website we have created, and manage, a comprehensive e-communication system for NML. This has involved the design and production of four separate templates and the setup of the management system.
