We didn’t get to see many of the sights in Glasgow but we were mighty impressed with Central Station, the funky audio pods in the BBC reception, and even the very random Swan and Railway pub we ended up in, back in Wigan on the journey home! All in all a good day out!

Woo hoo I made the final twelve colours for my ‘After Eights’ submission!

Last year Raw Design thought up the brilliant Christmas by Colour project which would donate all profits to the charity C.A.L.M. (Campaign Against Living Miserably). I like many others made a submission based on a colour that shaped my Christmas and was fortunate enough to be shortlisted.

This year Raw have evolved the award-winning campaign by taking 40 of their favourite colour submissions and asking the online community to vote for their favourites. This was then whittled down to the top 12 and produced into two sets of greetings cards. I received mine this morning and must say they are great and the perfect Christmas card to create a talking point on Christmas day.

The top twelve colours are as follows:

Quality Street (Guy Moorhouse)
Sprouts (John Dowling)
Yellow snow (Nick Greenwood)
Mulled wine (Tash Willcocks)
End of the Sellotape (Pete Clarke)
Park Lane & Mayfair (Jez Burrows)
Bank balance (Tom Heaton)
Granny’s whiskers (Jordan Nelson)
After Eights (Shane Phillips)
Bucks Fizz (Gil Cocker)
Pigs in blankets (Sean Rees)
Walking in the Air (Kelly Mackenzie)

You can get your packs of cards in the Christmas by Colour shop.

You can also find this project and more creative seasonal offerings on the Creative Review blog.

Special thanks and congratulations to our friends and neighbours Claire and Liam of ‘Theatre In Education’ company; Tiny Giants. They’ve only gone and opened The Lantern theatre on the floor below us at 57 Blundell Street! We made it down to their first plays about road safety, which coincided with last week’s National road safety week and thought they were brilliantly powerful and enjoyed talking to people afterwards about road safety and designing for schools. We designed the new logo for Lantern theatre and are excited about working together on future projects.

Check out The Lantern theatres performance of Dickens’ Classic ghost story; Christmas Carol, it runs from Saturday 5th Dec – Weds 30th Dec Monday – Saturday @ 6.30 pm and Weds @ 2.30 pm to get your tickets ring 0151 703 0000 and for more details see www.thelanterntheatre.co.uk

Splinter are proud to announce that one of our gang, illustrator Stephen Chan, has beaten over 250 applicants to win the UK’s Don’t Panic poster competition. The competition is part of the PlayStation® Season and Manchester International Festival, the award is made even more prestigious as Stephen’s design was chosen by graphics guru/legend/master Peter Saville (www.designmuseum.org/design/peter-saville) who said:

The work questioned the subject [innovation] and posed multiple answers. Also it was one of the only works executed in a contemporary visual idiom, whereas a lot of the posters were styled using a retro aesthetic. I discounted these immediately as they weren’t innovative in style, even if the subject was attempting to be innovative.

To get your preview of Stephen’s winning poster and find out more about the competition please see; www.dontpaniconline.com/posters/view/?pid=1524
