FACT

To correspond with the opening of their £8 million media centre in Liverpool, FACT commissioned Splinter to redevelop their corporate identity. The identity needed to represent the organisation as creative yet professional. The identity we developed is simple enough to allow great flexibility of application, whilst ensuring that the brand is consistently represented.

The logo at a fundamental level provides a ‘building block’ for future branding/design, allowing plenty of scope for interpretation whilst still referring back to one point of origin. This becomes evident when interpreting the logo, for example, to web navigation or building signage. It also has the benefit of being able to sit alongside other identities without being overpowering.

Manchester DEP

Manchester Development Education Project’s (DEP) works with schools, educators and other organisations involved in the formal education sector. The Climate Change Directory we have designed is categorised by Key Stage, Curriculum Area and Climate Change theme. The design is attractive and the directory well organised, easily navigable, and accessible. The look and feel appeals to both Primary and Secondary teachers.

Splinter have recently also designed DEP’s Teaching the Global Dimension: A handbook for teachers endorsed by Manchester Metropolitan and Liverpool Hope Universities and the DEA.

Destination Snowdonia

Splinter has re-designed the Snowdonia Mountains and Coast ‘The Active Destination’ bilingual guide. Working with Gwynedd Council we produced the 80 page A5 document promoting the wide range of outdoor leisure activities available in the area. We were selected by Gwynedd Council because of our experience of producing Welsh / English documents and our understanding, and creative interpretation, of their corporate guidelines. The high quality brochure promotes the activity tourism products within Snowdonia National Park, Llŷn Peninsula and Cambrian Coastline.

The Real Wrexham

Splinter won a competitive tender to design and create the Real Wrexham guide 2008 and 2009 for Wrexham County Borough Council. The Guide was split according to specific themes identified as target markets, and colour coded accordingly. Splinter provided all copywriting, and costed and managed the selling of all advertising space.

As with all Welsh Local Authority publications, we were required to produce the Guide bilingually. Therefore, two versions were produced, with 90% of the total run written in English and 10% in Welsh.

Fish & Kids

Splinter were commissioned to design the identity for Fish and Kids, a national three year project developed by the Marine Stewardship Council. In addition to the brand we also designed the project website and associated online games, and a printed learning pack.

The campaign has been very well received by schools and in November 2006 the project won the first environmental National Green Award at London’s Guild Hall, presented by Ian Pearson MP Minister of State for Climate Change and the Environment.
