Clued Up In Hull

We have recently completed content and design of the Hull Children and Young Peoples website. Splinter, in partnership with Mair education, produced full design templates, illustrations and written content for two websites targeted at under and over 12s. The sites are appealing and dynamic and the content we supplied was wide-ranging and original.

The project won the following awards:
• Gold Award in the Digital Media category at the National Local Government Association Awards 2009
• Best website at the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire CIPR Awards 2009

Pssst! 2009

For the 2009 Pssst! campaign we produced an approach focusing on the dangers females face when drunk. This approach equates the lack of control women have over their situation when drunk, to that of the helplessness of a dummy. This approach is being communicated by the use of a real, physical dummy, which finds herself in a range of compromising situations.

Make Global

Junction K a strategic communication company commissioned Splinter to develop Make It Global as part of a wider web initiative on behalf of the Northwest Regional Development Agency. Make It Global is a content rich, interactive micro-site which sits within the main www.makeit.org.uk site. The site explains, and promotes the potential of careers within the manufacturing industry.

Our solution features a bank of six screens, with each screen focusing on a particular manufacturer and stage of the manufacturing process such as product development, design, sourcing, and fair trade. Each screen features a combination of video, animation, interaction and gaming to produce six engaging individual pieces. These are supported by more in depth fact files and teaching resources.

Splinter provided all elements of makeglobal including: concept development, research, copy, video, flash animation and illustration.

C-Change campaign

Funded by the government’s Climate Challenge Fund, C-Change is a project which aims to engage young people who have some knowledge and concern about climate change and wish to make a difference by raising the awareness of their peers.

Splinter were asked to design a booklet that would be visually engaging to the target audience [15-24 year old], the document provides key facts on climate change and sets out constructive steps that the viewer can take to make a lasting change. We have subsequently produced other supporting material highlighting key events being held around the UK and have built a number of flash banners for the C-Change website.

Promised Land

Kensington Regeneration approached Splinter to design and create a Key Stage 3 learning resource to commemorate and coincide with Holocaust Memorial Day, held in Liverpool in January 2008. Splinter’s design used a stark, illustrative image of a barb-wired-clad version of the City of Liverpool against a contrasting brightly coloured background, representing each community.

Visual Arts Enrichment

This educational package, based upon Visual Arts, is the third Arts Enrichment course that we have produced. The materials are aesthetically rich and reference a whole range of Visual Art sources such as Pop Art, Cartoons, Painting and Sculpture.

The pack consists of multiple learning modules and seven posters. Literacy and numeracy exercises are embedded into Visual Art activities such as pattern creation and tessellation, character design and scaling, to produce engaging basic skills learning materials.

Sounds Good

Splinter were asked to develop a pack called ‘Sounds Good’ in which students are required to create an imaginary band. The student then ‘manages’ the band during its development, and on to ultimate success and an awards ceremony. Literacy and numeracy activities are inter-woven throughout the pack and the learning experiences of the student.

The clients were particularly interested in our ability to provide educational digital solutions that complement printed materials. These included:
• Learning materials for training courses and subsequent materials
• ‘Top Trump’ cards to support interactive learning
• CD support materials
• Activity sheets
• Interactive multimedia solutions
